William Carol Morris Sr., age 92, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence. Mr. Morris was born August 21, 1916, in Turbeville, son of William Ellison and Ethel Belle Morris. Mr. Morris graduated from Olanta High School. He and his brother, Merritt, founded Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway in 1947. Along with his wife, he operated Morris Shoe Shop in Hemingway for 28 years. He served as a magistrate for Williamsburg County, a member of the Hemingway Town Council, the Civitan Club, the Order of the Eastern Star #156, and was a 60 year Master Mason, Indiantown Lodge #165. He was a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, and held numerous other positions.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Hemingway First Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery in Johnsonville. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Bethea Baptist Retirement Community where he and his wife resided for the last three years.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Lynn Watford; sisters, Nell Cusaac and Anita Morris; and brothers, Ivan Morris, Guy Morris, Merritt Morris, Devon Morris and W.E. Morris.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Leona Keen Morris; a son, William Carol Morris Jr. (Judy); a son-in-law, Ronald Gene Watford; four grandsons, Robbie Morris (Lindy), Kevin Morris (Jennifer), Ron Watford (Stephanie), and Craig Watford; one step-grandson, Brad Fennell (Temple); five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rhunette Keels, Serena White and her husband, Victor; and two sisters-in-law, Janie Lou Morris and Nell Morris.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Bethea Baptist Retirement Community, 157 Home Ave., Darlington, SC 29532 or to Hemingway First Baptist Church, 200 E. George St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
