OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Oct 6 1949 "Mrs. Sanford Aho Funeral Service Set For Tomorrow"
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Sanford E. Aho, 65, a resident of the west side district for many years who died at her Beechwood farm home Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The remains are in state at the Johns chapel and will be removed to the family home at 10 a.m. Friday.
Rev. Armas L. Maki of Marquette will officiate at the services to be held at the home on Old US-2 tomorrow at 1:45 p.m. and at the Finnish National Lutheran church of Beechwood at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Rosehill cemetery.
Mrs. Aho had been ill for three years with a heart ailment. She was born in Nurmo, Finland Feb. 24, 1884 and came to the United States as a young woman, settling in the Iron River district. She resided first in Stambaugh and in 1921 the family purchased the Beechwood farm and moved there.
Mrs. Aho was an active member of the Finnish National Lutheran church and had served as president of the ladies' aid society for 17 years.
Surviving are her husband, a member of the M.A. Hanna Co. police force; a daughter Lillian; and four sons, Nels, Eino, Uno and Donald, all of Iron River township. She also leaves three grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Frank Maki, Stambaugh, and a brother Tom Saari who resides in Finland.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sanford Aho were held from the family home at 1:30 and from the Finnish National Lutheran church at Beechwood at 2 by the Rev. A.L. Maki, Marquette, assisted by the Rev. A.E. Kokkonen, Calumet, a longtime friend of Mrs. Aho.
Mrs. Andrew Hendricksen, organist, played for Mrs. A.E. Kokkonen, vocalist, and a duet by Mrs. Victor Peltonen and Mrs. Victor Hautala.
Burial was made in Rosehill cemetery. Pallbearers were John Happanen, John Saukko, William Lahti, Gust Markkola, Solomon Varvi and William Norkoli, all Beechwood neighbors.
Attending the services from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lahti, Mrs. Emil Lahti, Mrs. Ero Kesti, Iron Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sivula, Mrs. Theodore Johnson, Crystal Falls; Mrs. Victor Peltonen, Mrs. Victor Hautala, Mrs. Sanna Hautala, Mrs. Fanny Hendrickson, Amasa; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Korpi, Mrs. Katherine Jacobson, Mr. and Mrs. Arne Grayes, Ishpeming; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Buskanen, Bessemer; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Harju, Wakefield; Mrs. Victor Nopola, Biwabic, Minn.

Sanfred E. Aho was born in Veteli, Finland May 20, 1887, and came to this country in 1905, settling in Stambaugh. He married Ida Latvala Niemi who was born in Nurmo, Finland on February 24, 1884, on April 1, 1906, and they moved with their family to a Beechwood farm in 1921. Mr. Aho was employed by the Hanna Co. and worked as shift boss at three mines, the Tully, Cardiff and Homer. He retired in 1952 as a mine policeman at the Wauseca. Mrs. Aho died in October 1949, Mr. Aho in October 1957. Their children were: Lillian, Nels, Eino, Uno and Donald.
