John Reinkens Dies in Crash East of Monte
Satsop Rancher Killed in Collision at Brady Crossing
A few minutes after the collision of his truck, driven by his son, Harry, with the automobile of Capt. H. M. Sorensen, Aberdeen, Port Captain for the Transmarine Lines of Boston, Tuesday morning. John G. Reinkens, 50, Satsop, rancher and dairyman and member of the Reinkens pioneer family. He died of a broken neck.
Upon reaching Brady they turned out to get gasoline at the M. & H. garage. The Sorenson car approaching from the west turned out to its right and the two hit head on. Both cars were badly damaged.
Harry Reinkens stated that as he started to turn he saw the approaching Sorenson machine and believed he would have sufficient time to cross ahead of it. He under estimated the distance and speed of the approaching automobile and did not realize that the cars were about to collide until too late.
Captain Sorensen in his report declared that he did not see young Reinkens put out his hand in signal for a turn and had no knowlegde that the light truck was about to turn left. When he saw the truck cutting across the road he swung hard to the right, but the car struck at an angle and with terrific force.
The truck was heavily loaded with milk bottles and cases of these bottles crashed against the side of the Sorenson car, breaking the windows and scattering fragments of the broken bottles inside the machine.
Mr. Reinkens was born in Germany, December 6, 1877, and came to this country 37 years ago. He had lived in this vicinity for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Effie Reinkens, Satsop; two children, Harry, 20 and Thelma, 18, and two grandchildren; five brothers, Bernard of Pasco, Louis of Mossy Rock, Ernest of Elma, Tony of Montesano and Jacob of Satsop; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Larson, Mrs. Ed Valentine, Mrs. Parker Askew and Mrs. Harry Carter of Montesano, and Mrs. I.
