The Jensens
Herman Johan Jensen was born May 4,1923 in Veggerby, Denmark, the fourth child of Niels Steen & Maren Kristine Jensen. He grew up on the family farm and later, would operate a bicycle repair shop, log timber in Sweden, & sail with the Merchant Marine. In 1949, he met Hilda Simonsen at a country dance in Denmark.
Hilda Eleanora Simonsen was born October 7, 1931 in New Richmond, Ohio, the youngest child of Fritz and Eleanora Simonsen. Hilda lived in Cambridge, Maryland for most of her childhood, with short stays in Delaware & Florida. They moved to Denmark after WW2 where Hilda lived until
1951. She came to Edmonton in June of 1952.
Herman & Hilda were married June 28,1952 in the Ansgar Danish Lutheran Church in Edmonton. In 1953, Shirley was born, followed by Eric (1954), Neil (1959), Carel & Glenn (1967). In 1960, they purchased land at Poe, moved to Ryley in 1967 and operated the Variety Store until retiring back to the farm in 1990.
Herman passed away on January 27, 1992, Hilda on June 6, 1992. They will be deeply missed.
