His mother died when he was a small boy and he went to live with his grandparents, Jock and Jane Fogo. After his father, George Fogo, remarried, he went to live with him and his stepmother, Hannah (Chesemore) Fogo. He attended the common district school and received a good education. He became a successful school teacher and taught in the rural schools of Richland Co for a number of years during the winter months. He purchased the farm formerly owned by his grandfather John (Jock) Fogo and began farming and later operated a dairy business there. Eventually they sold this farm and bought a larger and better farm on Fancy Creek just south of Gillingham. On 17 Feb 1921, he took his own life as the result of a gunshot wound afterbecoming mentally depressed.
