John Jordan Norman, son of John M. and Mary Norman, was born October 27, 1853, in Monroe Co. KY and came to Missouri with his parents in 1871, settling near Merwin in Bates, CO.
On September 19, 1880 he was united in marriage with Rebecca J. Gilkerson of Freeman, MO., and to this union were born eight children, one dying in infancy. The seven surviving children are; Robert R. of Long Beach CA; Dwight, Ray and Will of the home address, Mrs. Pearl Schaper and Mrs. Mary Dixie of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Leona Gray of Harrisonville, and Mrs. Lora Steen of Archie, MO. Besides these children and their mother, Mr. Norman is survived by two brothers, L. W. Norman of Butler, MO., and J.E. Norman of Kansas City, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Everman of Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Kate Davenport of Nevada., Mo., and Mrs. Alice Enyart of Kildere. Okla. There are also seventeen grand-children.
At the age of 25, Mr. Norman was converted and united with the Methodist Church, and he continued as a devout and loyal member the remainder of his life. He was steward eight years and superintendent of the Sunday School at Valley Chapel for many years. He was a loving father, a devoted husband and a faithful Christian.
Mr. Norman died at his home 600 Butler St. Friday April 5, 1929 after having been a resident of Harrisonville for the last twenty years. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon; April 7, at 2:30 o'clock P.M., the Rev. George E. Hargis Pastor of the Harrisonville Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Orient Cemetery.
