L. C. Maples Rites Today – Heart Attack Is Fatal to Contractor, Veteran of Last War

L. C. Maples, 50, well-known Shreveport contractor and veteran of World War I, died of a heart attack early yesterday morning.

He had been a resident of Shreveport since April, 1934, and was one of the first contractors for the building of Barksdale Field. He made his home at 744 Wilkinson Street.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mable Maples; one son, John Charles Maples; two brothers, Jack S. Maples of Shreveport and Clarence W. Maples of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Chaney of Abilene, Texas, and Mrs. Bertha Hale of Seminole, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock this afternoon at McCook Bros. Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Dana Dawson, pastor of the First Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Bently Sloan, and burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Joppa Masonic Lodge will be in charge of services at the grave.

Pallbearers will be Henry Chalin, Lewis K. Forrester, W. F. Taylor, D. O. Furr, W. T. Rowland, Jacques Wiener.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American General Contracting Association, Shrine Club, Mithra Grotto, Cosmopolitan Club, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Joppa Lodge, and the Building Trade Council.
