Riley M. Bass was born July 9, 1873, at Hackneyville, Coryell County, Texas, to Elihu Holcomb Bass and Parthenia Ann Gentry. He married Dora D. Thomas April 16, 1893 and they had six children. Riley stood 5ft. 10in. tall, had blue eyes, light hair and a light complexion. He was a special officer in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas. He had been a deputy sheriff and in 1910, he was living in San Antonio, Bexar Conty, Texas and was working as a teamster. Riley enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a SPECIAL RANGER from May 23, 1917 until January 1918. In January 1918 when the AG cancelled his Warrant of Authority, bass was or had been a Wells Fargo Guard in San Antonio. Riley M. Bass died March 3, 1918 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He was buried in the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, Atascosa County, Texas.
