Lewis M. Lyles
SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Lewis M. Lyles, 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Gary Boswell, Senior minister of Westview Christian Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the funeral home.
Lewis was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Thomas and Alta Lyles. He passed away on January 17, 2012. He was a resident of Shreveport and a member of Westview Christian Church. He was a faithful church leader. He taught Sunday School, served as a deacon and an elder. He assisted in the establishment of the Springhill Christian Church and served as the preacher for about the first six months in Springhill, LA. He also helped with the organizing of the Louisiana Evangelizing Association and over the years, served as president of the LEA several times.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 32 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Lyles, parents and step-parents, Ira and Helen Townsley. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lydia; sons, Jerry Henderson and Larry Lyles and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Lindsay Foster and husband, Andrew, Caleb Lyles and wife, Sally; four sisters, Betty Reed, Joanne Tucker, Barbara Eshelbrenner and husband, Bob, and Patty Wintle; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Freddy Mitchell, Byron Melvin, David Swicegood, Larry Thomas, Gary Varner and Ricky Womack.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Westview Christian Church, 7188 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, LA 71119.
