Warren J. Rathke, of Wrights Corners, husband of the late Shirley Hofert Rathke, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in Veteran's Hospital in Buffalo, NY. He was born in Buffalo, NY, on February 26, 1925, the son of the late John and Emma Krentz Rathke.

He was a veteran of WWII, US Navy proudly serving his country from 1943-1946. He married Shirley Hofert September 20, 1952 in First English Lutheran Church Lockport, NY. She died on May 11, 1996. Warren worked at John Rathke and Sons Automobile Dealer and Repair a family business on Lockport-Olcott Road at Wrights Corners. Warren and his brother owned and operated a fire extinguisher service and fire equipments sales in Wrights Corners. Warren was a past Niagara County and Fire Coordinator/Emergency Manager for 20 years retiring December 30, 1997. He joined Wrights Corners Fire Company in 1943 and was past Chief 1958-1959/ 1967-1969 and past President 1976-1977. Warren served on many committees and boards and to follow are some of his organizations that he belonged to: Chairman of Niagara County E-911 Implementation, Niagara County Arson Task Force, Niagara Co. Fire Chief's Association, Niagara Co. Fire Advisory Board, Niagara Co. Local Emergency Planning Committee, Western NY Firemen's Association, past President of NYS Fire Coordinators Association, Western District Fire Coordinators' Association, Life member of NYS Academy of Fire Science Faculty Student Association, NYS Fire Council, NYS Emergency Managers Association, Director of NYS Fire Investigators, Volunteer for the Red Cross of WNY, he helped with Katrina and forest fire in the west. Warren was the recipient of FIRE SERVICE ACHEIVEMENT AWARD by FASNY. The Warren J. Rathke Public Safety Training Facility was name after Warren. He also was Town of Newfane Councilman and Deputy Supervisor for 20 years. Warren was a member of Lockport Sunrise Optimist Club since 1970.

Father of Kevin (Brenda) Rathke of East Amherst, NY and Kimberly (Randy) Hunter of Rochester, NY. Grandfather of Daniel ( Rachel) Hunter, Paul (Jamie) Hunter, Kaitlin Hunter, Kelly and Tracy Rathke. Brother of the late Wilbert Rathke and Emil Krentz. Brother-in-law of Jane Rathke of Wrights Corners and Marilyn Weir of Burt, NY. Also survived by several nieces and nephews
