He was a son of the late Richard C. and Ola McNamara Crain and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.

He was a farmer and carpenter and retired from the Sullivan County Highway Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cladith Wilson Crain; a daughter, Brenda K. Crain; sisters, Florence Miller and Lora Bailey; brothers, James Crain and Mack Crain; a half-sister, Laura McMurray; and a half-brother, Blaine McNamara.

He attended Sunday morning services at Clay Hill Baptist Church and Sunday evening services at Hickman Memorial Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Delores Vines and her husband Ken, Bernice Crain, and Lisa NeSmith and her husband Thomas, all of Blountville, Darlene Leonard and her husband Jerry, of Loudon, Tenn., and Audrey Crain of Kingsport; three sons, John H. Crain and his wife Gloria of Bristol, William Crain and his wife Melinda, and Allen Crain and his wife Deborah, all of Kingsport; a sister, Janie Hensley of Blountville, a brother, Ward Crain of Chicago; grandchildren, Jimmy Crain, Cherie and Katina Leonard, Nikki Olden, Rich and Kendra Crain, Joshua, Joseph and Angela NeSmith, Bill Crain, Kelli Crain and James Andrew Hayes; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The committal and burial will follow in the Baker Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Horne, Gary Baker, Randy Roller, Michael Abel, Joe Crain and Johnny Crain.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
