James Pleasants Amos originated this plot of ground as a cemetery in about 1885. James P. Amos owned a farm, and a man in the county died and had no cemetery plot. The family of that deceased man did not have the means or place to bury him; so "Grandpa Jim" said that he would donate some of his farmland as a burial plot for the deceased man. After that, many family members were buried in this area which has become the Amos and Powers Family Cemetery.
