Thomas B. Burnham, 85 passed away November 3, 2008 in Austin, where he has been a resident since November 1959. He was born December 13, 1922, in Rye Valley Community, Mills County,Texas, the eldest son of Coleman and Leona Hufstutler Burnham. A younger brother preceded him in death at infancy.

Mr. Burnham was a graduate of San Saba High School and Texas Tech University. He accomplished Bachelor Degrees in Accounting and Banking, Animal Husbandry and a Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics. Before three and a half years in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he attended the University of Texas a Pre-Med Major. He entered the Army Air Corps June 26, 1943; trained at Randolph Field, San Antonio, before sailing overseas July 19, 1943; spent 30 months in Europe with Eighth Air Force; discharged as staff sergeant February 14, 1946.After returning from the service, he taught business courses in the Veterans School in San Saba for two years. He had attended Daniel Baker College, Brownwood, in 1948 before transferring to Texas Tech in 1949 to complete his education.

Upon graduation from college, he was commissioned into the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Commissioned Officer in 1963. He was a Baptist and a member of the San Saba Masonic Lodge.

Thomas was a retired state employee after twenty-five years with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a Disability Examiner for the Social Security Administration. He had been previously employed as a Southwest Regional Credit Manager for Sears Roebuck and Company and a Public Relations Officer with the Austin National Bank. He served as a Director on the Board of Directors for the San Saba National Bank for over ten years.

Mr. Burnham was never married and is preceded in death by his parents and the infant younger brother.

He is survived by several cousins, his beloved friends and caretakers, Mark and Debbie.

A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Austin, Texas. A visitation was held from 6-8pm Friday,November 7, 2008 at Howell–Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas. Graveside Services were held at 10 a.m. November 8, 2008 at Shaw-Bend Cemetery, in San Saba County under the direction of Howell-Doran Funeral Home.
