Leslie James Pearson, 65-year-old Burley resident, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at his home from heart complications.

He was born Aug. 7, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward and Velma Pearson. He attended schools in Salt Lake City and Murray, Utah, graduating from Murray High School.

After graduation, he immediately joined the armed forces, proudly serving his country in Vietnam and receiving the Purple Heart for his actions. He returned to Utah and worked at the Deseret Publishing Co., then later moved to Burley, where he worked at the J.R. Simplot Co., until his heart problems forced and early retirement.

One of Les' proudest achievements was the award given to him by the city of Burley for chasing down and capturing a thief who had broken into a jewelry store.

He is survived by two sisters, Suzy (Gary) Gregg and Merla (Dirk) Severe. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 30 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Velma; one brother, Gerald; one sister, Luella; one niece, Katherine, as well as his grandparents.

Though he was an ornery old cuss, he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 E. Main St. in Burley. A private burial will take place at a later time.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home in Burley.
