Joel Addison Hayes, Jr. (1848-1919), born in Holly Springs, MS, was the son of Joel Addison Hayes Sr. and Lucy White Taylor.

He married Margaret Howell Davis (buried at Hollywood), daughter of the Pres. of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis, and Varina Anne Banks Howell (both buried at Hollywood).

Joel was a young banker from a TN family who met Margaret Howell Davis in Memphis in 1873; they married in Memphis on Jan. 1, 1876. Jefferson & Varina Davis became fond of their only son-in-law, and Margaret "Maggie" & Joel "Addison" bore them 5 grandchildren, 4 of whom lived to adulthood.

Varina Howell Davis HAYES b: 12 Mar 1879
Lucy White HAYES b: 2 Jan 1882
Jefferson Addison HAYES-DAVIS b: 2 Oct 1884
William Davis HAYES b: 9 Jun 1889

In 1885, the Hayes family moved to Colorado Springs, Co, because of Addison's health where he became quite succcessul, rising to the presidency of the First Nat. Bank. He also served on the boards of other financial institutions and was one of the organizers and president of the state bankers' association.

He outlived his wife by 10 years, dying in Los Angeles, CA, in 1919; he is buried with the Davises in Hollywood Cem., Richmond, VA.
