Alphonse B. Lanwehr, 80, Ottawa, died at 12:25 a.m. Monday, at Lima Manor Nursing Home, Lima, after an extended illness.

He was born February 23, 1906 in Glandorf to Henry and Elizabeth (Gulker) Lanwehr. He married Mildred Shaffer in February, 1949, and she died in August, 1984.

Surviving are two sisters, Edith Zinser and Louise Dugan, both of Ottawa.

Mr. Lanwehr was retired as a self employed truck driver. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 63, Ottawa, the Ottawa VFW, Anzie Beachhead Veterans of WWII, Ottawa Eagles, Putnam County Historical Society, and Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa.

A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwend officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, where military rites were conducted by the American Legion and VFW.

An Eagles service was held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at McCrate-Love Funeral Home.
