Alice Hazel Mehaffey Cales, longtime resident of Kaw City , died Saturday, March 15, 2008. She was 94.

A service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with Pastor Lyle Shipley, Kaw City United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery .

Alice Hazel Mehaffey, the daughter of James "J.R." and Jane ( Taylor ) Mehaffey, was born on July 6, 1913 in Robbinsville , N.C. She lived there until 1935 when she left the " Great Smokey Mountains " of North Carolina and married Glenn Cales on Sept. 28 in Newkirk , Okla. and moved to Tonkawa. After a year, they moved to the Swanson Ranch in the Big Bend area. Following the birth of their son in 1940, they moved to Idaho and farmed until 1945 when they returned to Oklahoma and lived out the rest of their years. Over the years they traveled extensively and had many adventures together making lifelong friends with whom they never lost contact. Alice and Glenn were married for an incredable 67 years before he passed away in 2002.

Alice was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She loved to laugh. She also loved people and made friends everywhere she went. Alice was greatly loved and will be missed in the lives of many.

She is survived by her son, Arlin Cales of Kaw City, a granddaughter, Debra Frosco; two great-granddaughters, Darcy and Kristin Frosco, all of Edmond, and many loving friends and relatives.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two sisters, Naomi Blackwell and Winnie Johnston.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Kaw City United Methodist Church , P.O. Box 55 , Kaw City , OK .

Casket bearers will be Donald Cales, Jack Cales, Cecil Cales, Neal North, Justin Cales and Stewart Cales.
