John Peter Weidert was 13 when his parents, Bernard and Marie Bodevin Weidert, emigrated from Luxembourg with their 12 children. They reached the port of New York on the SS Monterey in August 1847. The family settled in Elk County, Pennsylvania. John P. Weidert married Helen Kleisart from Borgentreich in the state of Westphalia in Germany. For many years he owned and operated the Weidert Lumber Camp in the area. John P. Weidert died from being gored by a bull on his farm.
