US Congressman. He was educated in Charleston and England and became a rice planter, also becoming active in South Carolina's colonial government, serving in the Colonial Assembly from 1773 to 1775 and as Justice of the Peace in 1775. After the United States declared independence Huger served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1778 to 1780, and on the Governor's Council in 1780. He was a member of the Continental Congress from 1786 to 1788. After the ratification of the US Constitution Huger was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Federalist, serving in the first and second Congresses, 1789 to 1793. He did not run for reelection in 1792 and returned to South Carolina, residing in Charleston and on "Goodwill", a plantation in Eastover, Richland County. Daniel Huger was the father of US Senator Daniel Elliott Huger.
