Daughter of Charner Humphries and Mary Darby, and widow of three men: Eli Cornwell (died 1838), Dr. William Gilbert (1807-1864) (Fulton County's first doctor), and George Key. Mother of Jeremiah Silas Gilbert (1839-1932) whose "Gilbert House" on Perkerson Road SW, constructed circa 1865, is one of Atlanta's oldest standing farmhouses (now owned by the City). Mr. Gilbert was (fortunately) interviewed in 1931 by Franklin M. Garrett and Wilbur Kurtz, thus providing much priceless information on his parents and grandparents, and Atlanta and West End's beginnings.
