William Roland (Billy) Norris, was possibly born in October or November, 1816, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He emigrated with the Norris family to Overton County, Tennessee, in 1835 and was listed as living in the distict of Olympus in Overton County, Tennessee in the 1850 and 1860 census. His name has also been referred to as William Simon, but descendants of his son, John Roland, give Roland as his middle name.
Billy was married to Mary Elizabeth (Polly) Jones in 1840 in Overton County, Tennessee. He was a farmer. Around the year 1865 during the Civil War he and his family emigrated to Clinton County, Kentucky They lived there until after 1870. It's not known if Billy and his family moved to or lived in Barren County, Kentucky but his son Roland died in the early part of the 1870's. Billy and his wife Mary with sons William and George was listed as living in the Green Castle district of Richardsville in the 1880 census. They lived there for some years and then Billy and Mary moved back to Clinton County where they lived until they died. Billy possibly died about 1892 and was buried in an unmarked grave.
