Alfreteen Nisely Price was born March 4, 1924 in Lisbon, Louisiana to Mary Wright Nisely and John Wesley Nisely. She was the second child born to this union. After the passing of her mother, Alfreteen, at age one and her sister Johnie Mae at age 2, went to live with their grandparents, Rilla and Green Wright where they were nourished and loved.

Alfreteen accepted Christ at an early age, uniting with the Antioch Baptist Church and the Friendship C.M.E. Church. She was educated in both the Lisbon and Homer schools, including the Homer Colored High School, and she subsequently attended Grove street College in Oakland, California. I Homer, Louisiana she met and courted her best friend, Dover Price whom she would later marry.

Encouraged to seek a better life, her grandmother Rilla sold a cow in order to purchase train tickets for Alfreteen and Johnie Mae to relocate to Oakland, California. During World War II she found employment at the Todd Shipyard where she worked as a Welder on Navy ships.

On September 25, 1943, Alfreteen and Dover were wed. To this union, three children were born, Jonathan, Pamela and Patrica.

In 1943, Alfreteen joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and participated for many years in church organizations such as the Lydia Circle, Women's Mission, and the Baptist Training Union and she also faithfully participated in Sunday School and worked for several years caring for children in her famous egg pie which brought joy to many family members and friends from near and far. When she was not in the kitchen, she enjoyed reading her Bible, traveling, entertaining and teaching her children and grandchildren. She retired from the United States Postal Service in Oakland, California after 17 years of dedicated service.

Alfreteen departed this life on the morning of March 10, 2009 at 4:09 a.j. after a prolonged illness which she fought courageously until her last breath. She was surrounded by her children an other loved ones through her transition. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dover; sisters: Rosie Lee, Johnie Mae, and Lillian; and her brother, Obed.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Jonathan B. Brice of Oakland, CA; daughters, Pamela Price Thrower of Oakland, CA and Patricia Price Green (John) of Stone Mountain, GA; eight grandchildren: Marie Wilson, Adrienne Moore, Jamila Price, Aisha Price, and Safiya Price of Oakland, CA; Lewis Thrower II or Riverside, CA; John Green II of Stone Mountain, GA; and Uche Obim of Oakland, CA; three great grandchildren: Neil Wade of Oakland, CA; and Layla and Cynthia Joseph of Richmond, CA; two sisters, Marjorie Presley (Nathaniel) of Inglewood, CA and Zadie King of Los Angeles, CA; and two brothers: Falton Nisely of El Dorado, AR and Ralph Nisely of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
