Mrs. Nellie Pearl Schultz Greene, 74, wife of Edward T. Greene and resident of Watertown or nearby vicinity for 54 years, died at 11:05 Sunday morning at the family home on the State Street road, town of Watertown, after a serious illness of only five days. Death was attributed to an acute coronary occlusion.
The funeral will be at the family home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30p. The Reverend Graham I Hodges, pastor of Emmanuel Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Adams Center.
Surviving Mrs. Greene, besides her husband, who is the owner and operator of the Ed Greene Dairy and has been in the milk business for 42 years are nine children; Miss Mildred L. Greene, RN, city, Mrs. Omer J. (Nora) Schofield, Rutland Hollow Road, Mrs. D. L. (Alice) Brand, Oneonta, Mrs. Donald R. (Martha) Eldridge, Hadcock Road, Joseph L. Greene, Stanley E. Greene, Orlin T. Greene and Alfred E Greene, all of Watertown, and David M. Greene, State Street road; 22 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters; Mrs. L. J. (Minnie C.) Kelly, Watertown, and Mrs. Stanley (Florence) Symes, Detroit, MI. Another son, Marine Cpl. Harold O. (Pete) Greene, was killed in action on Iwo Jima during World War II on March 10, 1945, at the age of 28 years old. Corporal Greene was a member of the Fifth Marine Division's 28th regiment which was instrumental in capturing the now famous Mount Suribachi. Four sons, Joseph, Stanley, Orlin and Alfred Greene, and two sons-in-law, Mr. Schofield and Mr. Eldridge, will be the pall bearers at the funeral.
Mrs. Green had been able to be up and around at her home until she was stricken seriously ill a few days ago. Only last month, she, her husband and a daughter, Mildred, returned home from Florida, where they had spent eleven weeks.
She was born November 23, 1882, in Yarker, Ontario, a daughter of Stanley E. and Lucy J. (Ruttan) Schultz. She came to this country at the age of 20, locating in Watertown. She was married to Edward T. Greene of this city on January 30, 1906, in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church by the Reverend J. Foster Wilcox, then the pastor. For the last 42 years, she and her husband resided on the State Street road. Mr. and Mrs. Greene observed their golden wedding anniversary in January, 1956, with an open house at their home.
Mrs. Greene was a member of the Emmanuel Congregational Church, the local chapter of the Gold Star Mothers and the Watertown Grange.
