Frank served in the military, enlisting in the U.S. Army on March 5, 1923 as a private, at Fort Omaha, Nebraska, Company I, 17th. Infantry. Frank was a tall and handsome man 6'2" with gray eyes and brown hair and a good sense of humor. Well liked in the community and a good farmer. He was born in Forreston, IL and came to South Dakota with his parents who were pioneers in the community when he was 4 years old. He had 2 sisters and 1 brother. He grew up in Britton, SD and farmed there after he married Verena until he moved his family to Bellingham, WA to work as a machinist in about 1945. He married Verena in May 12, 1932 in Souix, South Dakota,they had six children. They lived on a small farm in Bellingham after moving to Washington. He was of German descent. His father was born in Illinois and his mother born in Altersiegelsum, Ostfriesland she came to American on a ship from Germany when she was around 12. Frank loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a Christian who loved his wife and family.
