Mary A. Hobbs, Galesburg Chapel 79, of 613 W. Losey St., died at 3:05 PM Thursday July 5, 2007 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born January 9, 1928 in Morrison, IL the daughter of Charles R. and Leila Jacobs Lawrence, Sr. She married Richard F. Sturgeon. She later married Roy A. Hobbs on August 1, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael (and Elaine) Sturgeon of Galesburg and David Lee (and Rhonda) Sturgeon of Galesburg, one step son, Jeffrey Hobbs of Wisconsin, one step daughter, Jana Gerlitz of Denver, CO, two brothers, Charles (and Marilyn) Lawrence, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ and Dean (and Norma) Lawrence, Sr. of Denver, CO, a sister-in-law, Sharon Lawrence of Davenport, IA, two grandchildren, Josh (and Trisha Turley) Sturgeon and Kyle (and Brandy Workheiser) Sturgeon, three step grandchildren, Tamara Miller, Sam Diefendorf and Robert Gerlitz, three great grandchildren, Kolton Sturgeon, Logan Sturgeon and Madison Sturgeon, and two step great grandchildren, Danielle Diaz and Chad Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She worked for the Admiral Corporation as an assembler for 20 years, retiring on August 1, 1985. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crafts. She also repaired all the uniforms for the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Baseball Teams for several years.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Monday July 9, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Elks Crippled Children Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
