Dr. John D. Morgan was a representative for Meigs, Rhea and James Counties to the Tennessee General Assembly, 1885-1887.  He was register of deeds 1866-1867 for Rhea County TN and a trustee for Rhea County TN (1878-1882 and 1890-1902). He served in the Sixth Tennessee Mounted Infantry (USA) in Lt. Col. George Gowin's regiment. This unit was organized, October 1864 and mustered out June 1865.  After the war Dr. Morgan began his Dentistry practice in 1867.
