Viola Jane Miller of Owensville, Missouri, was born on June 25, 1926 near Oak Hill, Missouri to Oscar Harrison Collier and Mary Susan Souders Collier and passed away at her farm in north Crawford County on March 22, 2009, at the age of 82 years.

She attended country schools and graduated from Owensville High School in 1943. She was selected by the school board to teach in the rural schools and began a lifetime of teaching. She taught in the small schools and continued her education at Lincoln University where she graduated in 1966.

On December 31, 1949, Viola married Clarence Miller and to this union two children were born.

While Clarence was stationed in France after WWII, Viola taught school in Poitier, France. While Clarence was in the service, Viola taught school in the UnitedStates, Germany and France. In 1963 the family returned to the United States and settled at Owensville, Missouri. Viola taught fifth grade at
Owensville Elementary, Owensville, Missouri.

Family was vitally important to Viola and she was the keeper of family history and stories for the Collier and Souders families.

Religion was important to Viola; she was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a devout Christian. She served as a Sunday school teacher throughout her life and her husband served as a Deacon in the churches they attended wherever they lived.

Viola loved having a large group around the farm's dining room table loaded with food, sharing family stories, especially the funny ones. She loved her cattle, enjoyed the nature abounding on the farm, picking wild plums and elderberry for jam and knew how to make delicious boiled wild
greens.

Although she enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and 13 European countries, her favorite place was her Missouri prairie farm.

She served on the Oak Hill Cemetery Association Board, member of the Eastern Star where she once served as District Deputy Grand Matron, VFW, Delta Kappa Gamma, NCO Officers Wives, Royal Neighbors, and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered at the Gasconade County History Museum in Owensville, the Gasconade County Fair, Extension Club, and the Fort Leonard Wood Widowed Support Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Lillie Adele Maness and Mary Erline Cunningham; brothers, Leslie Samuel Collier and Oscar William Collier. She is survived by one brother, Everett Joshua Collier and his wife Barbara, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter, Jane Ann Parres of St. Louis, Missouri; son, John Collier Miller and wife Ruth Ann, of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandsons, Ronald Lee Parres II and wife Jennifer Ann and Dustin Nichols
Parres; other relatives and friends.

Viola chose cremation with no funeral service. An informal gathering of her family and friends at the Oak Hill Church, Cuba, Missouri on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. People may bring flowers from their garden as she loved and shared bouquets with everyone all her life. Please, no formal flower arrangements. Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
