SIOUX CITY -- Keith L. Burns, 71, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Keith was born on Oct. 29, 1940, in Laurel, Neb., to Adrian and Emma (Berg) Burns. His early childhood was in the Laurel area. The family then moved to south of Newcastle, Neb., where Keith graduated from grade school in the spring of 1955. He started high school in Newcastle and then the family moved to Obert, Neb., where he graduated from Kelbert High School in 1959. He later attended Norfolk Junior College.

After college, he worked for several farmers in the area until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1969. Later, he joined the U.S. Marines and was in the Cuban Crisis. From there he was in Vietnam and came back to the states in 1964.

He married Anna Obermeyer on June 20, 1964. After his discharge from the service, he came back to Laurel, Neb., and worked various jobs. In 1970, he started his employment with Wilson Trailer as a shag driver and remained there until June of 2006. In 1973, he joined the 185th reserves unit and stayed with them until June of 2006.

Keith enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing, being a part of the River City Anglers and spending them with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son, Tim and Miriam Burns of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a daughter, Tammy and Dennis Barnes of Council Bluffs; a granddaughter, Sabrina; one brother, Gary and Linda Burns of Hartington, Neb; one sister, Doreen Dunnihoo of Sunol, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
