Jan 26th, of lung fever, in St Joseph County, Ind, Bro Thomas Shirk, aged 33 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
Our departed brother leaves a wife and six children to mourn his departure.
God alone is able to heal the wound which his own hand, in love, sees proper to inflict; and, as a soothing balm, here may be applied the language of the psalmist, "A Father of the fatherless, and a Judge of the widow is God in his holy habitation."
The departed suffered much during his illness of about four weeks, which he bore with Christian resignation, patiently awaiting the hour of his release.
Funeral sermon was preached by Bro Daniel Brenneman from the 116th Psalm, 15th verse. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
