ILLNESS CONTRACTED IN DISCHARGE OF HIS DUTIES FATAL TO CORONER KINNE
The funeral of Dr. George R. Kinne, coroner of Onondaga county, widely known throughout Central New York, who died at 4:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon, will be held Saturday. The Rev. Almon A. Jaynes, rector of the Trinity Episcopal Church, will conduct the services at the late home, No. 438 Gifford street, at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon. Masonic ritualistic services will be conducted by Syracuse lodge, No. 501, F. and A. M., in Oakwood chapel at 3:30 o'clock.
Dr. Kinne contracted the fatal illness while recovering from a serious attack of heart disease and grip during the latter part of January. On the night of the 21st of that month he was called to investigate the Bacon murder, near Borodino.
In a weakened state he made the trip over the rough country roads during a heavy snowstorm. He was chilled and upon his return to this city took to his bed. Despite medical attention he grew worse and complications developed. He was taken to the Hospital of the Good Shepherd and underwent an operation. He rallied and later was taken home.
During the latter part of last week he was able to sit up in bed. A recurrence was noted yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and his family was called to his bedside, the decline until the end was gradual.
Coroner Kinne was considered one of the most capable men that ever held the office of coroner in this county. He was conscientious and energetic and at all times devoted to the responsibilities of his office. His knowledge of law, displayed at inquests was always commented upon and it was often said that regardless of who became coroner in years to come, this county would never have one more capable than Dr. Kinne.
Dr. Kinne was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Kinne of the won of Clay and was born December 25th, 1853. He was a graduate of Syracuse College of Medicine with the class of 1876. He practiced in Orville after his graduation and later removed to Manlius. In 1883 he came to this city and had practiced here since.
He was nominated on an independent ticket for the office of coroner in 1909, and defeated his opponent, Dr. A. M. Willer, Republican, by eight votes. He was nominated by the Republicans in 1912 and re-elected to serve until January 1st, 1916.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel F. Kinne; two daughters, Mrs. Georgianna Brace of Jordan and Helen Ruth Kinne; one sister, Mrs. Marietta Candee, and one son, Harvey Kinne.
Pending the action of Governor Glynn in appointing a successor, Dr. Archer D. Babcock will act in the capacity of coroner, he being coroner's physician.
