Robert B. Oakley
Addison, N.Y. — Robert B. Oakley, age 85 of Reservoir Hill Road, Addison, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Corning Hospital. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Chester and Daisybell Oakley. His wife of 43 years, Ruth Oakley predeceased him in February of 2006.
Bob attended school in Herrick Center, PA. After moving to Corning he worked at Corning Glass Works until he joined the Navy, receiving an honorable discharge as a WWII veteran. He returned to dairy farming until he retired in 1980. After retirement he remained active as an avid outdoorsman.
Bob is survived by one daughter: Bonnie Neimann of Spokane, WA; two sons: Dennis (Peri Ann) Shelly of Seattle, WA; Eric Oakley of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters: Katherine Brimmer of Corning, Zelma Johannes of Honesdale, PA; one brother: Clayton Oakley of Corning; one grandson: Taylor Shelly of Seattle, WA; brother-in-law: John Shimonsky of Dresden, NY; sister-in-law : Sonja McGuiness of Sterling, VA; nephews: Michael McGuiness of Round Top, NY, Bruce(Kathy) Brimmer of Addison, Robert (Laura) Brimmer of Caton , Randy (Maureen) Brimmer of Painted Post; nieces: Brenda (Tim) Allen of Rochester, Debbie (Tom) Elliott, and many other nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brother Leroy Oakley and his sister Helena Brimmer.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison, NY on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from Noon to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Robert Lawrenz officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Addison Rural Cemetery.
