Mr Burke was born in New York City. His ancestors came to America in the 1840's. He moved to Jersey City in the early 1900's. He married Alice Delaney in 1915. They had six children. William, Francis, Vincent, Alice, James and John. Alice died in 1932; she was only 6 .Frank won the congressional medal of honor and Vincent was wounded at the battle of the Bulge in 1944. He earned the Purple Heart and European Campaign Medals from France and England. Mr Burke was an excellent athlete. He was a marathon runner winning numerous medals. He ran in the Boston Marathon when he was 60 Yrs old, placing 27th. He boxed under the name of Billy Burke in his twenties. He held many jobs, last was as a laundry routeman. His heart gave out on November 16, 1958, 3 months or so shy of his 70th birthday. His wife Alice died on November 17,1966 at age 78. William died in 1998, Francis in 1988, James in 1997. Vincent is 83 and John is 73 as of this writing, Feb 2004.
