The Horneburg microfilms (LDS) for St. Maria Magdalene Church show his christening on 13 August 1791, and his three marriages. He seems to have been born just before his father moved to Horneburg, and christened just after such a move. The church records show that his godparents were Johannes Theodor Ketteler and Anna Maria Mechtilde Blune Lermann.

The Horneburg records show the marriages of Theodor's two older brothers, Friderich and Anton. The records also show the christening of Theodor's twin sister, Angela Elizabeth, on the same date as his own.
These records seems to indicate that Theodor had four children from the first two marriages. There were six or seven children from his third and last marriage to Christing Metzinghausen on 15 September 1826.

Theodore was born in West Prussia around 1788 and is found on the 1860 U.S. census for Waterloo Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He is listed there as age 72 with his wife and the four youngest sons. Theodor Schwarzhoff is the husband of Christine (nee Metzinghaus) and the father of at least five sons -- Adolph (b1829, Christopher (b1830), William (b1827), Theodor (b1824), Joseph b(1839). The Ancestry.com data base shows an 1847 immigration date for a Johann Theodor Schwarzhoff.
Adolph might have been Theodor's son by a first marriage, but Christine appears a more likely mother. Adolph seems to have emigrated in 1847 before the rest of the family, according to ship passenger and other immigration records. He either made the trip alone when only 18-21, or he came over with another relative. Adolph was not on the 1860 census with his father since he had left home and started his own farm. The 1860 census indicates his farm was near his father's.
Theodor himself, may have come to the U.S. with son Wilhelm in 1853. His wife Christine, and sons Christopher, Theodore, and Joseph arrived the next year (1854). It is also likely that Christopher came over earlier around 1850 and then returned to Germany to escort his mother and brothers to the U.S. in 1854. The publication "Immigrants to America..." gives him an 1853 immigration date and ship passenger records show a date/ship the same as his mother in 1854.
"Immigrants to America..." states that Theodore was an innkeeper and that he sold the inn before immigrating. The inn was on the Chausee (highway) to Horne. The property was sold to "WEMBER" ( on the upper heath). Later records for the Allamakee historical society give brief biographies for sons Christoper and Theodor (the younger) who were farmers there. These biographies confirm the immigration dates. They also mention that the family spent a year in Dubuque before deciding upon the purchase of farms in Allamakee county. Theodore (the elder) probably helped purchase and lived on either Christoper's or Theordor's (the younger) farm.
Since Theodore and Christine are not on the 1870 census with their sons, etc in Allamakee, It can be assumed he and his wife died sometime in the 1860s. This is the basis for their 1866 estimated death years They would both have been in their late seventies.

It has been reported that there are a few unmarked graves in St Mary's Cemetery in Dorchester. These could include those of Theodore and Christine. They would have been one of the first to be buried in St Mary's cemetery, possibly with wooden markers. They may have been buried on one of their sons farms before the Dorchester Catholic Cemetery was established.
