Daniel D. Freewalt, 82, 04615 County Road 33A, St. Marys, died at 11:28 a.m. Oct. 14 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Lima, to George and Velma (Rhoades) Freewalt. On April 10, 1943, he married Ruby Thomas and she survives. Also surviving are 17 nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Kermit Freewalt Sr. and Robert Freewalt, and a sister, Beatrice ENGEL. He formerly worked at St. Marys Foundry Co., owned and operated Freewalt Construction Co. in St. Marys and later worked at Churchill Construction, Lima. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served under General George S. Patton in the 610th Tank Destroyers in Europe during World War II. He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9289, St. Marys, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Post 73, Wapakoneta, a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 323, all of St. Marys, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691, Wapakoneta.
