Grant Main was born 2 Nov 1805 in New York, son of Christopher Main Sr. and Amelia "Millea" Weaver Main. One sources says he was born in the city of "N" in the state of New York. It's possible the "N" stands for New York City.

According to census, marriage and other records, Grant's father (Christopher Main Sr.) was born in Connecticut, probably in North Stonington, New London County on 6 Oct 1774. He married Amelia "Millea" Weaver in Connecticut in 1794 (US & Int'l Marriage Records). By 1801 Christopher and Millea were living in New York where several of their children were born, including their 6th child, Grant. Sometime around 1815 they were living in Ohio. In 1822 they had moved to Henry county, Indiana where their last two children, Orrin and Caroline were born. The 1840 census finds them in St Joseph county, Indiana where they remained until his death on 14 Jul 1866.

In 1827 Grant was living in Henry county, Indiana with his parents & several siblings. Here he married Miranda Robertson on 18 Aug 1827. Miranda was also born in New York and appears to have moved west in connection with the Main family.

In the 1840 census Grant and Miranda were living in St Joseph County, Indiana where his parents were living.

Prior to the 1850 census they were in Blue River Township, Henry county, Indiana. This township was next to the Stoney Creek township where the John Albertson & Margaret Roberts Ware family had been living (1830-1848). Here the daughter of Grant (Lucinda Main) met and married Jesse Ware, son of John & Margaret Ware. Grant and Miranda were still in the Blue River Township in the 1850 census.

In the 1860 census Grant and Miranda were living in Union Township, Howard county, Indiana, Post Office: West Liberty. Next door to them was their daughter Lucinda Main who had married Jesse Ware. John and Margaret Roberts, son William P. Ware and other Ware family members were also living here.

Grant enlisted in Co. H, Indiana 101st Infantry Regiment (Union side) on 21 Aug 1862 and was mustered out on 15 Dec 1863.

Grant passed away in the Greentown area on 8 Apr 1868 and was buried in the Greenlawn cemetery (Old Lindley Section; previously known as the Lindley cemetery) in Greentown, Indiana.

Miranda did not remarry. In the 1880 census she is widowed age 74 living with her daughter Maranda (Main) Pickett in Jackson Township, Howard county, Indiana. There is no reason to think she did not remain there until her death on 9 May 1896.
