Sarah was the daughter of Isaac "Joseph" Sebastian, Jr. and Mary "Polly" Summers, granddaughter of Isaac Sebastian and Sarah Clay Spires.

She married Benjamin J. Whitaker about 1819, they had 12 children they raised in Mulberry, Lincoln Co., TN.
Henderson Cannon, Lawson Spires, Larkin Moore, Dr. Philander, Finetta Alice King, Valentine "Joe" Columbus, Marcus De Lafayette, John P, Frances, Altantic, Lucius J, & Sarah A Chilcoat.

In the fall of 1850, mostly Whitakers, Kings, and related families (about 35 families in all) set off in wagon trains from Tennessee to the Nacogdoches County, Texas.
