He retired after 24 years of service from the U.S. Marine Corps as a master gunnery sergeant and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Bonnie Sloan Post 28 American Legion, the VFW Post 3281, and a member of the Marine Corp League in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda L. Roark Cherry; sons, Rodney A. Cherry, and Dugles R. Cherry and his wife, Ana; siblings, George R. Cherry, Dorothy Giltner, Garland Cherry, and Anna Mae Anderson; and grandchildren, Demetrius A. and Victor A. Cherry.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James and Kelly Cherry.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 with burial and military honors at Fairview Cemetery, New Albany. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, at the funeral home.
