Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Chris J. Scherkenbach, 40, of Jacksonville, Fla.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; killed June 28 when an MH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed while ferrying personnel to a battle against militants in eastern Afghanistan. Survivors include his wife, Michelle of Jacksonville, Fla.; his parents, Elmer and Marjorie Scherkenbach of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Karen O'Brien of Arlington Heights, and Cheryl McGrath of Nekoosa, Wis.; five brothers, Lee Scherkenbach of Gurnee, Jed Scherkenbach of Crystal Lake, Kurt Scherkenbach of Crystal Lake, Craig Scherkenbach of Lake Villa, and Jeff Scherken-bach of Crystal Lake; and 14 nieces and nephews.
