Katie Joan Kates Tanner, 78, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012. Funeral: 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Interment: Bluebonnet Cemetery Garden of Peace. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home.

Katie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a passion for interior decorating, painting, bowling and gardening. Her lasting legacy will be her warm heart, how she touched and taught others and her kindness and compassion in life. She was predeceased by spouse, Ben R. Austin; daughter, Debra Lynn Sutton; and her brother, Everett Kates.

Survivors: Sister, Betty Jean Peel; son, Rodney Edward Sutton and his wife, Sandra; son, Benny Richard Austin Jr.; daughter, Delia Mae Austin-Cherry and her husband, Ray; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
