Bio: Born in Rujevo, Kamanje, Karlovac, Croatia on 19 Jan 1863 to George (Juro) Rujevčan Genzić and Margaretha (Mara) Blažina (birth & baptismal records of Kamanje, Croatia), Agnes Rujevčan married first husband Mathias (Mata as found in Kamanje, Croatia Parish records or Martin as found in 1900 U.S. Federal Census records) Mihalić (or Mehalic as found in 1900 U.S. Federal Census records and as maintained by all children and future U.S. generations). While these same records document her first son as Petar Mihalić, born 11 Aug 1887 in Durlinci, Kamanje, Karlovac, Croatia (Kamanje, Croatia Parish records), these same records did not reveal two additional children that family tradition states were born to this union prior to immigration. Tradition states Joseph Mihalić (b. 1888) and Mary (b. 1889) each died prior to immigration, so that only Petar survived to immigrate with Agnes in 1894 which followed Mathias. While living as a coal minor in the Cambria/Indiana County area of Western Pennsylvania, Mathias and Agnes gave birth to Anna Marie (b. 1895), Steven Frank (b. 1897), Thomas (b. 1898), Mary Elizabeth (b. 1903) and Joseph Charles (b. 1904 and the subject grandfather of this author). Family tradition indicates Mathias (or Martin as known in the U.S. at this time) was killed in a possible undocumented mining related incident during 1906 when Joseph was only 2 years old (my interviews with Joseph and with his first cousin Catherine Frances Mehalic Sebuck in 1984). These interviews consistently indicate Agnes then married Peter Mehalic, who had changed his surname to sustain "Mehalic" with the rest of the family. Peter passed in 1926 and is buried about 100 feet from Agnes in St Michael's Cemetery, Glen Campbell, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Cousin Catherine's mother, Franca (Frances) Rujevčan Mehalic Perine Milasin is also buried in this cemetery with her third husband, Silas Milasin. Franca's 2nd husband, Alexa Perine is buried nearby, as is her 1st husband, Marko Mehalic (1864-1915). Besides Agnes and Franca being siblings (verified in Kamanje, Croatia Parish birth & baptismal records), family tradition states Marko and Mathias/Martin Mihalić were brothers as well, although this has yet to be verified by the same records (work in progress).
