A native of Gainesville, he was found dead at his home today of an apparent heart attack. He attended the First Methodist Church of Panhandle and was a member of the Lion's Club.
Murphy was a graduate of Gainesville High School and received his bachelor's degree from North Texas State University at Denton and his master's degree from West Texas State University, Canyon. Prior to coming to Panhandle in September of this year as elementary school principal, Murphy had taught school in Hereford for four years and in Amarillo for seven years.
Survivors include the widow and two children, Marty and Myron, all of the home.
