Second Lieutenant John W. Bixby, U.S. Army Air Forces, 64th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, was reported missing in action in the Southwest Pacific Area on 2 December 1942 (this was later revised to 1 December 1942) when his B-17 failed to return to its base. John was advanced to First Lieutenant, Air Corps Reserve, posthumously on 3 July 1945. His name is engraved upon the Memorial Tablets, Manila American Cemetery, Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippines.
