Virginia Pearl Delavan (1879-1966) was the daughter of Samuel Asher Delavan (1840-1909) and his wife Marie Mott-Bunnell Delavan (1855-1937) She attended school in Guilford and the Ridley Lowell Business School Binghamton. She worked as a stenographer for her Uncle Erastus Calkan Delavan (1852-1907) in his insurance business office. There she met Conrad C. Klee who started in the office in 1903.
In 1907 her Uncle died and Klee took over his Insurance Business. In 1907 Conrad C. Klee married Virginia P. Delavan in the parlor of her parents Guilford, N.Y. home. She was an active member of the Tuscarora Chapter of the D.A.R. and The Monday Afternoon Club. She was the perfect business wife for C.C. Klee and saw to all arrangements for office retirement, Christmas and company anniversary dinner parties. Menus, place cards, seating arrangements, flowers musical entertainment and if needed appropriate gifts were handled and seen to by Virginia Klee.

A family member said when I would call Aunt Virginia to invite her and Uncle Con for dinner she would tell what they were having the other evenings of the week leaving the hostess rather limited options for her menu. It was Aunt Virginia who saw to the wardrobes of less fortunate nieces and nephews ahead of the start of each school year. All family birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts were Virginia Klee's doing. The Klees were regular worshipers of Trinity Episcopal Church Binghamton as well as generous benefactors. For many years they wintered in Palm Beach, Fl. taking Mrs. Lamont Bowers (Frances Irene Gere) with them. Conrad would golf, deep sea fish or attend Spring Baseball Training games. Virginia Klee and Mrs. Bowers would shop up and down Worth Avenue, attend teas or lunch at any of the restaurants of Palm Beach. Joe Anderson the Klee's Chauffeur would be available with their car which was brought down via a flatbed R.R. Car. Virginia struggled with her weight through the years and suffered w arthritis. Conrad had Otis elevators installed at their home 23 St. John Ave Binghamton, The Binghamton Club Front Street Virginia liked to dine there and Fairview Methodist Home in Binghamton where Virginia visited many of the residents that were her friends. He ordered a custom Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan de Ville with a front passenger seat that extended out from the car Virginia could more comfortably step up and sit down then the seat would retract into the car. They had a housekeeper Agnes Russell who worked for them for many years. Following Conrad Klee's death in June 1962 Virginia Klee had fallen at home a few times. Instead of bringing in a hospital bed and round the clock nurses at home where there already was an elevator. The executors of Conrad's estate Cornelius VanPatten & Edgar Couper saw fit to check her into a private room at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital w round the clock private duty nurses. She lingered there for several years and died there 1966 at age 87years. She could easily been in her own home.
