Actor, Singer, Director, Producer, TV Executive. He appeared in motion pictures and as an entertainer from the 1930s to the 1960s. He was the first actor to play Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe on film. His TV production company, Four Star Television (which he co-founded in 1952 with Charles Boyer, David Niven and Ida Lupino) produced numerous hit shows like: "The Rifleman," "Four Star Theatre," "Burke's Law" and "The Big Valley," among others. The husband of actress Joan Blondell and later, until his death, husband of actress June Allyson, his niche plaque apparently indicates an incorrect death year as 1962. Most sources state January 2, 1963, as being the correct date.
