U.S. Army PFC James Dwight Anderson, of Smiths Grove, was killed in Vietnam Aug 15 when a land mine exploded.
Anderson had been in Vietnam only 23 days when he died. His widow, the former Janice Lowe, of Rt 3, Smiths Grove, received notification of his death.

Anderson was inducted in the Army on Feb. 18 this year. He arrived in Vietnam about a month after he married on June 28.

The 20 year old private was a graduate of North Warren High School. He was a member of Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry.

Besides his widow, survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Anderson of Smiths Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Tommy Lowe and Mrs. Jimmy Hughes, both of Smiths Grove; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Reba Anderson, Smiths Grove and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Travis Tweedy, Smiths Grove.

Funeral services are incomplete pending the arrival of the body. Hardy and Son Funeral Home of Smiths Grove, is in charge of services. Burial will be in Smiths Grove Cemetery.
