From a newspaper - "Funeral Services held April 23rd for Betty Van Winkle - Betty Louise Van Winkle, 59, of rural Kearney died Friday April 20, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Mrs. Van Winkle was born on January 13, 1942 at Silver Creek, Merrick County, Nebraska to Clinton and Opal (Sheperd) Colby.

She grew up at Silver Creek and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1960.

After graduation she worked at the Farmers's Union Station at Clarks.

She married Dennis Van Winkle on June 1, 1963.

They lived at Hordville and in Chappell for 23 years before moving to Kearney in 1998.

She worked for Western Drug while living in Chappell.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chappell, Precter Alpha Gamma Sorority in Chappell, and was a past member of the Eastern Star in Silver Creek.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis; three sons: Todd of Ravenna, Nebraska, Jeffrey of Ceresco, Iowa, and Darren of Grand Island, Nebraska; one sister, Carolee (Mrs. Edsel) Matousek of Clarks, and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services were held Monday, April 23, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Kearney. Burial was in the Silver Creek Cemetery, Merrick County, Nebraska.
