Funeral services for Robert E. "Blackie" Black, 88, of Jeffersonville, will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel, Jeffersonville, with entombment in Walnut Ridge Mausoleum. He died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Jeffersonville, was a World War II Navy veteran serving in both the European and Pacific theaters of operation. After the war he worked as a government inspector at the Army Ammunitions Plant in Charlestown, retiring in 1975. He was a faithful member of the South Clark Church of Christ.
He is survived by his six children, William Winn, of Clarksville, Marie Michalski, of Jacksonville Fla., Rita Slone, of Mitchell, Robert Donovan Black, of New Albany, Jennifer Denhard, of Borden, and Randy Black, of Sellersburg; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virginia K. Black; and parents, Walter and Candace Black.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and after 10 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
