Mabel Brining, 87, of Port Hope, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.

She was born on June 8, 1924 in Gore Township, daughter of the late Carl and Mabel (Philipp) Kaufman.


She married Carl Brining on Oct. 27, 1945 in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1998.

Mabel was a hospitable hostess, who enjoyed gatherings at her home for her family and many friends. Playing cards was one of her favorite activities during many of the parties that she hosted.

She is survived by one daughter, Roxanne Sander of Canton; two sisters, Norma Johnson of Port Hope and Geneva (Bernard) Cregeur of Westland; one brother, Nathan (Doris) Kaufman of Port Hope; one sister-in-law, Lois Kerr of Unionville; three grandchildren, Gretchen (Matthew) Woodke of Harbor Beach, Mark (Annie) Sander of Highland and Todd Sander of Northville; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Luke, and Shea Woodke of Harbor Beach and Colin and Grace Sander of Highland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by one grandson, Matthew Sander; three brothers, Eugene, Philipp, and Glenn Kaufman; one brother-in-law, Alvin Johnson; one sister-in-law, Ethel May Kaufman.
