Obituary

STEPHENSON.--Julia Ann Tiemann, wife of John Stephenson, was born in New York March 3, 1811; was converted in childhood, and joined Bowrey Village (now Seventh Street) Church in 1830. Teacher and superintendent in the Sunday-school, member of choir, always active in church work, she became acquainted with John Stevenson, and was married to him in 1833. He survives her. She died at 6 a.m. February 27th at her beautiful home in New Rochelle, New York. She was buried on her eighty-first birthday, Tuesday, March 3, 1891. Her life nearly reached fourscore years, and was full of practical benevolence. A member of the first Board of Directors of the Methodist Episcopal Church Home in New York City, her last hours were devoted to charitable effort. A true wife, a devoted mother, consistent, loving, gentle in her home life, her memory is a benediction to her family. A sincere Christian, a devout student of the bible, a lover of Charles Wesley's hymns, she reached life's close with fearless trust, and went home to heaven in a sunset glow of strong testimony. The church in New Rochelle realizes her departure is both loss and inspiration.
