A Service of Remembrance was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore. Burial followed in the Highmore Cemetery.
Robert Berry Burnham was born on June 23, 1926 to Forrest and Mary Ellen (Berry) Burnham. He was one of eleven brothers and sisters. He attended Highmore High School and Brookings College. He returned to Highmore to go into a farming partnership with his dad raising cattle and sheep. He bought his father's share and continued farming until selling the farm in 1968. He also did custom stack moving. After moving to town in 1960, he became his dad's primary caregiver until his death. Bob lived in Highmore his entire life.
He belonged to the Methodist Church, Action Club and the Golf Course. He was a delegate to the South Dakota Democratic State Convention.
Bob was a good friend to Terry Houdek, buying him his first 3-wheel bike. He also did many other good deeds anonymously.
He is survived by his brothers: Kenneth Burnham of Kansas and Dean Burnham of Arizona; good friend Bob (Janice) Houdek and their family of Highmore, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Helen, Ellen, Margaret, Irene and Beatrice; brothers: Wayne, Harold, Don and Dale; and sister-in-laws: June and Lois.
